Happy Endings 2015
Crazy Blazey (Blaze) has found her forever home and is our first adoption in 2015! Thanks to the Stone family!!
Acquired : 11.7.14
Adopted: 1-3-15
Blaze's story:
Blaze is 7 months old (born approximately 4.7.14), spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, on flea and heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and we are working on leash manners.
Blaze was surrendered to the NYC Manhattan Animal Care and Control by her owner in September of 2014, she was pulled out and spent some time in a boarding facility before finally making her way into a foster home in our area. She is young and FULL of energy! She would love a home with another large male dog to play with! She might not do well in a home with small children that she can knock over and jump all over.
After a little over a year in rescue, the beautiful, amazing Tess has found her forever home!!
Acquired: 9-30-13
Adopted: 1-17-15
Tess' story:
Tess is a 5 year old (born 6-8-2008) female, spayed Akita. She is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.
She comes to us after losing two homes because she was fighting with the other female dog in the home. We are happy to finally have her with us, and we will make sure that she goes to the perfect forever home with the right male dog. She would do best in a home with the right male dog and children 8 or older.
Our sweet little Okami has found her forever home!!

Okami's story:
Okami is a spayed female pup (born 12-23-13), up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
This family of mom (Kiki), dad (Zeus), and twin 7 month old sisters (Akari and Okami) were taken in from a back yard breeder in PA.
Okami (which means "wolf," "great god," or "great spirit" in Japanese) was living with other dogs, and is great in doggy daycare!
She is very friendly toward people, and we are working on her manners on a leash!
Wonderful Riley has found her forever home!!
Acquired: 9-6-14
Adopted: 2-8-15
Riley's story:
Riley is a female, spayed Akita (born December 2013), who is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, on flea and heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and had her stomach tacked while being spayed to prevent bloat in the future.
Riley came to us after we were contacted by Chesapeake Animal Services. Riley's previous owner (and second home already!) came into their facility inquiring about euthanizing his 9 month old Akita who had an intestinal blockage. They were quoted $7k for surgery to fix it, which they could not afford. So we scrambled to get to her before the family did anything drastic. Our volunteers contacted the family and met them a few hours later at a local dog park. Riley was eating, drinking, and playing just fine. We took her to a local vet who had volunteered her services for free to get Riley the medical care she needed, but it turns out there was no blockage!
Riley is a happy, healthy, social young girl who would be very happy in a home with a large male dog to play with!
This wonderful family met Fiyero while adopting RIAR alum Okami, and came back a few days later to adopt him!!! Happy new life Fiyero!!
Acquired: 4-16-14
Adopted: 2-14-15
Fiyero's story:
Fiyero (pronounced "fee-arrow") is just under 5 years (born Oct 09, 2009), neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.
Fiyero, named after a prince from "Wicked," came from a pet store and belonged to a family where he was a pampered pup; he received good medical care, was socialized with people and other dogs at a boarding facility where he was a favorite client, and his human mom would feed him ice cream and peanut butter from a spoon. Fast forward a few years, and his human mom passed away. His human dad now found himself a single father with a daughter and a full time job. Fiyero, a reminder of his lost wife, became more than he could care for.
He was adopted on June of 2014, but his adoptive family fell on hard times in November of that year. They ended up living in their car with Fiyero in California! So, sadly, he is back with us again and looking for his true forever home!
This sweet boy loves people and children, and is good with other dogs, and would be great in a home with the right female dog, or as an only dog!

She is a large, young girl though and would do best in a home with a large male dog to play with.

Majii's story:
Majii is an adult (born 12-15-10) female, spayed Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.
Majii and Gatti were surrendered to rescue after their family went through a divorce and could no longer care for them. Majii began losing her sight in January of 2014 due VKH, an autoimmune disease, but it doesn't slow her down! Majii has lived with cats, small dogs, kids, and other Akitas. She is best friends with Gatti, but we feel that she could bond with another male dog. Majii would prefer a home with the right male dog to show her the ropes and be a playmate.

Kita's story:

Kita was found stray in North Carolina a few years ago, and her new family took excellent care of her until they fell on hard times. Kita previously lived with other dogs, but is much happier as an only. She is good with cats, but is very shy, so would not be good in a home with children.

Brom has found an amazing forever home with the Mahler family and RIAR alum, Tess!
Acquired: 4-23-15
Adopted : 7-18-15
Brom's story:
Brom is an adult (born approx 4-23-09) male, neutered Akita. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.
Brom comes to us from Chatanooga, TN where he was found running stray. Only he can tell the tale of where he has been and what he has seen, but he refuses to speak of it. The marks of a rough past can still be found though... healed fly strike on his ears and the heartworms he's being treated for suggest he lived outside. A dislocated elbow that was never attended to, a scar on his forearm, and what appears to be a BB, all in the same leg, attest to lack of care in his youth. His elbow has healed and our doctors tell us that there's nothing that can be done for it. He does walk with a limp, but it doesn't seem to hurt him at all and it definitely doesn't slow him down!
This wonderful boy loves people, is super social with other dogs, and even passed being cat tested! He regularly goes to doggy daycare. This amazing guy would love a home with the right large female dog to play with, and could live with kids and cats.

Capser is now heartworm negative and looking for his forever home! He is great with all other dogs, cats, kids, and adults! This sweet boy has already been through a lot in his young life, so he's ready to settle down. He would do great in a home with a female dog to play with or as an only dog.

This little girl is definitely an "old soul." She is already house trained, is non-destrcutive in the home, and is the calmest, most confident puppy we have ever met. Seriously, there are adult dogs that aren't as wise as her! She loves to play, and would be fine either as an only dog, or with a male dog to play with.
